Grange & Zeller Tackle

This vintage sports image by World Telegram & Sun photographer Alan Fisher depicts Chicago Bears teammates practicing, as football player Joe Zeller tries to tackle Red Grange.

Harold Edward "Red" Grange (1903-1991) made football history as a remarkable amateur and professional gridiron athlete. Nicknamed "The Galloping Ghost" and the "The Wheaton Iceman", he played as a halfback for the University of Chicago (1923-1925), the short-lived New York Yankees (which he also co-owned, 1926-1927), and the Chicago Bears (1925, and again from 1929-1934). He was also a backfield coach for the Chicago Bears from 1935 to 1937.
